The Self-Soothing Sleep Formula In this age of information there are dozens of sleep books written to instruct families, how to teach their child to sleep on their own. While there are some similarities between sleep books there are also contradictions. Because of these contradictions families are often confused over which methods are reasonable, compassionate and actually work. These sleep books have some valid information and some miss-information. The inconsistencies leave families to learn by trial an error, not a desirable outcome for children. There are major differences between sleep help books and the Self-soothing Sleep Formula. The main difference is that I have actually used my sleep formula thousands of times with children, of all ages, in my childcare, and as a nanny and baby nurse. I have had a long term and loving relationship with each child and was always sensitive to their needs and abilities. This sleep formula is a respectful and compassionate approach that gives children what they need, healthy sleep habits. On the other hand the authors of the sleep books have mainly gained their expertise through other peoples’ research, clinical studies and questionnaires. They haven’t spent years directly teaching sleep to children. They didn’t live with their results day after day with the same children. The sad truth is that some of the methods they teach totally disregard the emotional needs of children. There is one piece of advice though that all of the book authors and I do agree on and that is the importance of consistency. Consistency allows children to anticipate what will be happening next. Being able to predict what will happen to them gives them a greater sense of understanding and comfort. The sleep formula provides step-by-step instructions that are both consistent and easy to use. Frequently asked questions about the Self-Soothing Sleep Formula; How long will it take to start seeing results? Will my child be left to cry it out? Does the sleep formula use charts and lots of record keeping? With the sleep formula there are no charts or recording of your child’s sleep patterns. There will be some behaviors that you may need to discontinue and others that you will need to add but they are easy to remember because they make sense and because they work. Once you have learned the sleep formula you can use it for all ages and developmental stages with your child.
